It's a therapy, it's a hobby, it's a joy!

“Five years ago I was given a gift of a beautiful hand knitted scarf. I loved the colours and textures so much that I decided I'd like to have a go myself. I set out to look for the wool and soon I was reviving the skill I had been taught all those years ago at school.

I was pleasantly surprised at how therapeutic I found knitting. I have been a health professional for most of my working life and sometimes switching off from my responsibilities and relaxing had been difficult.

That was the start of a hobby that has now turned into a small business.”

Over the course of a few years Eileen has graduated from following basic patterns, to adapting patterns, to creating her own patterns and making her own designs. Since establishing her craft business, Eileen has branched out into making felted fashion accessories using wool from specialist designers.

Eileen is happy to knit to order, catering for customer’s ideas and specifications when designing items. Eileen uses a vast range of different yarn, from 100% wool specifically made for felting to a variety of stunning textured silks, cottons, mohair and bamboo yarns in a wide range of colours. Eileen also embellishes a whole range crafted items individually with a variety of decorative flourishes, for example changing a simple cardigan to a stunning evening cover.

Eileen is a member of West Kilbride’s growing knitting cirlce which meets every Tuesday evening at 7.00pm in the Happyhills studios. Like other studio makers, Eileen also runs a range of classes where she enjoys passing on her skill and enthusiasm for all things handknitted!
